It’s a long way from Amerang to Bangkok. However, it’s a shorter journey if you have to travel from Tokyo, Sydney or Jakarta to buy one of the very special machines that “Somic Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH and Co. KG” builds in the small Bavarian town of Amerang north of Lake Chiemsee and sells worldwide. And since the very successful company wants to expand its business in the booming Southeast Asian market, one of these machines is now in the foyer of the new branch in Bangkok. “It almost looks like Amerang here,” says managing director Patrick Bonetsmüller, 58, delightedly at the opening ceremony in mid-December as he looks around the new rooms. The design and color scheme are similar to the main building, and employees should feel at home wherever they are. It’s 31 degrees outside, but the temperature inside is comfortable.
