A 28-year-old mother from Solingen was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of her five children. The court in Wuppertal determined that the guilt was particularly serious. That almost rules out a discharge after 15 years.
The judges at the Wuppertal regional court saw it as proven that the mother killed five of her six children and sentenced them to life imprisonment on Thursday (November 4th, 2021). In doing so, the court follows the demands of the responsible public prosecutor’s office.
The defendant received the verdict almost without moving. She stared straight ahead and followed the judges’ explanations. The district court also determined the particular gravity of the case. The woman’s defense lawyers had recently pleaded for manslaughter or even acquittal. You can still appeal the judgment.
No statement in the course of the process
During the entire process, the 28-year-old was silent about the allegations and did not provide any information. Even after the pleadings from the public prosecutor’s office and defense lawyers, she did not use her chance for a last word and was silent.
As part of an expert opinion, she had stated that a masked stranger should have killed the children. The regional court found that there was no evidence of this. With the judgment, the judges also rate the Solingen woman as fully culpable.
Tat had caused a stir nationwide
The 28-year-old is said to have first stunned five of her six children on September 3, 2020 and then suffocated or drowned. She then drove to Düsseldorf with her sixth child and attempted suicide there. Meanwhile, her surviving son took a train to see the family’s grandparents. The trigger seems to be the separation of mother and father.
