Solar package: Why owning your own power plant will soon be much easier – Economy

Germany may not be considered the sunniest country in Europe. But what the sun provides is increasingly being used. According to figures from the Federal Network Agency, systems with a total output of 14.1 gigawatts were installed last year alone. That is almost twice as much as the year before. If the federal government has its way, this is just the beginning: from 2026 onwards, systems with a total output of 22 gigawatts are to be connected to the grid every year. “And we want more record years,” says Economics State Secretary Stefan Wenzel (Greens). To make this easier, the Bundestag will decide on the so-called solar package this Friday. This package is intended to stimulate the solar boom. But how exactly is this supposed to work?
