Software group SAP: Fridays without conferences

Status: 05/05/2022 10:44 a.m

At Europe’s largest software company SAP, employees should have more time to “take a deep breath” on Fridays. Work meetings, video or telephone conferences are no longer desired before the weekend.

The software company SAP wants to give its employees more time at the end of the working week and no longer hold conferences on Fridays. On this day, meetings and telephone and video switching should be avoided as far as possible, wrote HR manager Cawa Younosi in an internal statement.

The so-called “Focus Friday” should enable largely undisturbed working hours. Urgent tasks could also be completed before the weekend, Younosi wrote. “We go through the work week at top speed, but what falls by the wayside is the opportunity to work intensively on things, to learn new things or to breathe deeply during a lunch break.”

Global launch planned

According to the announcement, the innovation is planned in Germany from mid-May. After a pilot phase, there will be a global launch. Younosi named the 20th calendar week, so the first official non-conference Friday would be May 20th.

SAP sees itself as the world market leader in software for controlling companies. More than 100,000 people work for the Walldorf-based group worldwide.
