Söder and the Peruvian cycle path – Bavaria

Lima, February 2nd. The affair surrounding the secret meeting between high-ranking CSU representatives and Peruvian bicycle activists at the end of November in Villa Alpaca on the outskirts of the capital Lima is expanding. Video recordings from the specialist magazine Bicicleta Baviera available seem to show that CSU boss Markus Söder is holding out the prospect of the “systematic expansion of the Peruvian cycle path network with German tax money” in Villa Alpaca. “Bavarian money is better off in Peru than in Berlin or Bremen,” says Söder according to the recordings.

According to Söder, a special fund totaling 44 million euros will initially be used to “repair the long-distance cycle path between Puerto Maldonado and Cusco for seniors like Joachim.” He announced that his next campaign bike tour would not go from Bayreuth to Creußen as planned, but from Huaraz to Barranca, where it would end with the traditional shared Radi meal. “Global problems can only be solved globally,” said Söder in the video. “There can be no snail shell mentality when it comes to climate protection.” As part of a second project entitled “Inka mobil”, 37 kilometers of “white-blue express cycle paths” are to be built in the metropolis of Lima. Former Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer, who also took part in the conspiratorial meeting in Villa Alpaca, is apparently responsible for additional e-scooter lanes.

Criticism of the secret CSU plans also exploded within the Munich government coalition on Friday. “The Peruvians should ride their pan pipes around in cargo bikes at our expense,” said Hubert Aiwanger, the deputy prime minister of the Free Voters. “And there is no money for our hard-working farmers.” CSU General Secretary Martin Huber replied to the X news service: “Dr. Markus Söder left no doubt: Nobody has the intention of building a cycle path.” It is an “infamous accusation” that the CSU could “pursue a development policy that does not primarily have the interests of the Upper Palatinate and parts of Lower Bavaria in mind.”

Huber stated that “Dr. Markus Söder does not remember ever having visited Villa Alpaca or its excellent steak restaurant.” An “environmentally friendly bus system for Lima” was also “probably not discussed, and certainly not with a view to raising a green profile in the K question”.
