Sociologist Steffen Mau about divided society and democracy – culture

Steffen Mau is professor of macrosociology at Berlin’s Humboldt University. Even before reunification, the son of a doctor and a department head in shipbuilding completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician at VEB Schiffselektronik Rostock. He became known as an author and sociologist in 2019 with his book “Lütten Klein”, the new housing estate of his childhood, which he used as an example to write about life in the East German transformation society. For his new book “Trigger Points”, which will be published on Monday, he has now empirically researched the conflict dynamics of the present together with Thomas Lux and Linus Westheuser. It’s high time for a few questions about the state of the nation.
