Short names with lots of vowels continue to be trendy. Last year, Emilia and Noah were ahead.
Emilia and Noah have also been the most popular baby names in 2022. As in the previous two years, they came first on a list of the most common first names, as reported by the Society for the German Language (GfdS) in Wiesbaden.
The girls are followed by Sophia/Sofia and Emma, the boys by Matt(h)eo/Math(h)eo and Leon. The lists are based on data from more than 750 registry offices, which, according to the GfdS, had transmitted almost one million name entries.
Overall, the top ten most popular first names have proven to be very consistent: Parents still like to give their children short or very short names – often with many vowels.
