Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) advocates the development of an app that helps women affected by domestic violence. It’s about millions of euros.

An app that runs hidden on the smartphone is said to be used by those affected by domestic violence Offer support to women. According to information from Sunday, the Federal Ministry of the Interior is funding the development of the app with 3.7 million euros until the end of 2026.

The app is currently being offered as a pilot project in the Berlin and Hanover regions and will gradually be expanded to several federal states. A violence diary has already been implemented to document attacks that can be used in court, as well as references to support facilities. There should also be a silent emergency call for acute dangerous situations. A further intensification of cooperation with the security and law enforcement authorities is also planned.

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) explained: “Domestic violence is a terrible part of everyday life for many women. Nobody should leave the women affected alone with it. I am pleased that the app from the association ‘No Violence in the Future’ is the existing help and support system is supplemented by another building block.”

Statistically speaking, every third day in 2022 a woman was killed by her partner or ex-partner, the statement said. In total, there were more than 157,000 victims of completed and attempted intimate partner violence crimes. The numbers of domestic violence registered by the police have increased by 13 percent in the past five years.
