British civil servants must delete Tiktok from their work phones. The ban on the Chinese short video app is effective immediately, announced Cabinet Secretary Oliver Dowden. In addition, only programs that are on a list of approved applications will be allowed to run on smartphones in the future. The British government is following a recommendation from the national cyber security authority based on data protection concerns. Some other states like the US have issued similar bans. Employees of the EU Commission are also not allowed to use the platform known for dance videos on service devices. Tiktok is disappointed with the British decision.
