So far 105 damages after corona vaccination in Bavaria recognized – Bavaria

Vaccination damage yes or no? Since the start of the corona vaccination campaign, the Bavarian Family and Social Center (ZBFS) has received 2250 applications on this question in order to have health damage recognized. More than half of the applications have now been decided, said Thomas Kerner, who heads the department for victim compensation at the ZBFS, on Monday in Bayreuth.

Damage was recognized in 105 cases – those affected receive money from the Free State. For classification: In the course of the vaccination campaign, more than 29 million corona vaccinations were administered in Bavaria. It is 80 times more likely to die from a corona disease than to suffer from vaccination damage, said Kerner. 1030 applications have been rejected, 494 objections have been filed so far. And in 108 cases, lawsuits were pending before the social court.

In the Infection Protection Act, vaccination damage is defined as “the health and economic consequences of damage to health that goes beyond the usual extent of a vaccination reaction”. With a view to the corona pandemic, Kerner said: “In such a short time, so many people have never been vaccinated.” The number of applications for suspected vaccination damage was correspondingly high after the start of the corona vaccination campaign. In 2020, for example, there were just 43 in total.

The first corona vaccinations were administered in Germany in December 2020. First, there was a clear prioritization of the groups that should receive the vaccine first. Over the months, this was then lifted. ZBFS physician Bernard Kleiser said the current literature is being followed closely: which vaccine causes which side effects? It is also important that the patients have been informed in advance what a side effect of the vaccination is – and what a vaccine damage is.

Kerner emphasized that if there were new developments in the field of vaccine damage, those affected could apply again. Cases could then be re-examined with the inclusion of new scientific findings.

The Bavarian Family and Social Center, headquartered in Bayreuth, is responsible, among other things, for determining a severe disability, examining applications for compensation payments for victims of acts of violence and war – and processing applications for parental allowance. Last year, around five billion euros were moved in his agency, said ZBFS director Norbert Kollmer. This included federal funds such as parental allowance, but also funds from the Free State, such as the Bavarian family allowance.
