Snooker World Championship: Ronnie O’Sullivan crowned world champion – Englishman wins seventh world title against Judd Trump

Contrary to his performance in the third session, the 46-year-old set a scent mark right at the beginning and won the 26th frame with an 81 break.

Shortly thereafter, O’Sullivan prepared to exploit a mistake made by his opponent. Trump narrowly missed Black at 12:0 and then gave his opponent the chance to take the next frame. O’Sullivan made short work and extended his lead to 16:11 with an 88 break.

Trump brought himself back into play in the 28th frame with a long red and temporarily reduced the lead to 12:16. But his hopes of a comeback were dashed when a 75 break later left O’Sullivan just one frame away from his seventh world title.

In the 30th frame, Trump thwarted his opponent and completed the 109th century of the tournament. This was tantamount to a new record. The Englishman had previously set the previous record of 108 himself.

After the 32-year-old’s record contribution, O’Sullivan didn’t let his historic chance be stolen and marched towards his seventh world title. After the frame ball had been transformed, the spectators cheered loudly for every shot the current record world champion (together with Hendry) made.
