The Luca app has come under fire. After an incident in Mainz, where the police used the data without permission, Smudo now speaks up.

After some violent criticism of the contact tracking app Luca, one of the bosses has now spoken out. The “Die Fantastischen Vier” rapper Smudo (53) developed the program with and now spoke to the “image”-The newspaper about the allegations: “You can only access data if the user, the health department and the restaurant share their keys together.”

According to the Corona regulation, the user enters their data when entering the restaurant and the operator only passes them on at the request of the health department: “We as Luca-System are left out and cannot read any data in the process.” Before that, a case from Mainz made the rounds and caused violent reactions from politics.

After a fatal fall in front of a restaurant in Mainz, the police evaluated the data from the Luca app used there in order to identify people on site. The responsible public prosecutor’s office has now admitted that the procedure violated the regulations. As a result, Smudo also had to face ridicule and malice on social networks. But according to the musician, the app is not to blame.

Politicians call for uninstallation

Smudo has no sympathy for the occasional calls from politicians to uninstall the app: “I consider it irresponsible that a call by one or two previously unknown politicians could lead to people using the Luca app in the middle of the pandemic situation Clear.” The program effectively helps to break chains of infection, especially with regard to Omikron.

If you are hanging on the steep slope, don’t throw away a rope, Smudo continues. Instead of clamoring with bans, all instruments should be used consistently. You have to stay flexible “against a virus that keeps hooking up”. As a band member, he himself has an interest in making cultural life possible in the context of the pandemic. He vigorously denied rumors of an alleged sale of the app.
