Smartphones, tablets, watches: Samsung specifies five years of Android updates

As part of the presentation of the Galaxy S22 and S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy Tab S8 series, Samsung has once again announced an extended Android update guarantee, which now includes four new Android major versions and five years of security updates. As of the beginning of 2021, Samsung’s update promise was still: three main Android versions and at least four years of security updates after the market launch of the respective smartphone or tablet. The list of devices supported to this extent was long and also included smartphones from the inexpensive Galaxy A and Galaxy M series. Four years of smartwatch updates

In addition, Samsung announced today that smartwatches will also be subject to an update guarantee from now on. In this product category, the company does not differentiate between major versions of the operating system and security updates, but generally promises four years of updates for watches with “One UI Watch and Wear OS Powered by Samsung”. Behind the bulky name is the new operating system from the cooperation between Google and Samsung, which is being offered for the first time since last year’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The new update guarantee for watches therefore only includes exactly these two smartwatches. Future Galaxy Watch devices will also be covered by the new update guarantee.
