Denmark is still counting, Norway has suddenly become very quiet: The provision of “Leopard” tanks for the Ukraine is progressing only hesitantly. Why is that – and who is really delivering now.

The chancellor obviously had a clue. When Olaf Scholz announced the delivery of battle tanks of the type last Wednesday Leopard-2 from Bundeswehr stocks to the Ukraine, he garnished it with a comment in Latin. Now the following applies: “Hic Rhodus, hic salta.” The phrase refers to Aesop’s fable “The Pentathlete as Braggart”, in which an athlete brags about a big jump he once made in Rhodes. “Here is Rhodes, jump here” is the bourgeois call to follow words with deeds. Of course, Scholz left open who he meant by that. In general, it was aimed at those “who have particularly distinguished themselves in taking part in public discourses on German domestic politics”.
