Slovenia – Liberals lead after parliamentary election – politics

After the parliamentary elections on Sunday, there are signs of a change of government in Slovenia: According to the Mediana Institute’s election day poll, the liberal freedom movement led by energy manager and career changer Robert Golob was in the lead with 36 percent of the votes. Prime Minister Janez Jansa’s right-wing national SDS, which has ruled up to now, came to 23 percent. What is decisive, however, is which coalition can form a majority in parliament. The freedom movement, along with the centre-left parties that managed to get into parliament, could achieve such a majority. According to the surveys, Jansas SDS only has the conservative party NSi as a potential partner. In Slovenia, there is a four percent hurdle for entry into parliament. The final result was not yet available at the time this issue went to press.
