Sixt has expanded its “Ride” service. The car rental company now has electric and hybrid cars in its fleet. The new offer has been launched in several German cities as well as in a few other countries.

There are already electric cars in the fleet of Sixt’s car sharing fleet. Now customers can also book Sixt “Ride” transfer or limousine services with an electric or hybrid car. The offer is valid immediately in the cities of Berlin, Dresden and Munich as well as in numerous foreign cities, including Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Sixt announced on Thursday.

The new offer should enable a “comfortable” and “environmentally friendly” journey, it is said. Melanie Wand, Managing Director of Sixt Executive says: “We see an increasing demand for electromobility in the market and look forward to serving this with our driver service.”

The “Ride” service is booked online and via the app. At the start, customers receive a ten euro discount on trips in the Green, Business Green or Business Green XL classes. To do this, you have to enter a voucher code. The voucher campaign is valid until the end of November.

Sixt plans autonomous driving service

At the IAA Mobility last September, Sixt and Mobileye, a developer of autonomous driving technologies, announced that they wanted to bring robotic taxis to Germany. The two companies are expected to start the pilot phase for the so-called ride-hailing service in Munich in 2022. The vehicles are supposed to drive independently – but in the presence of a human driver. Customers should be able to book the transport service via an app.

The aim of the autonomous driving service offer is to scale ridesharing services based on self-driving vehicles in Germany and other European countries over the course of this decade. In addition, the two companies want to expand their concept throughout Germany and in other European countries during the period mentioned
