Six Vietnamese dishes that are real umami bombs

In every corner of the country there is steam coming from pots and the smell of food. Vietnam is a country of street food – and umami. The flavors are brought into balance in the dishes. And sweet, sour, salty, spicy combined on a single spoon. The national dish? Of course the pho. The traditional noodle soup has long since conquered the hearts of foodies all over the world, at any time of the day – even though the spicy soup is actually breakfast.

Vietnamese cuisine is known for one-pot dishes and dishes based on a flavorful, hearty broth. It is the basis of hot pot, a type of Vietnamese fondue. But it can also be found in Bun Bo. The French also left their mark. Their culinary influences can be found in the former colony, among other things, in Banh Mi. The sandwich is one of the absolute street food stars and would be unthinkable without the baguette.

Creative and varied

Vietnamese cuisine is light and playful. Creativity and variety are valued. Many dishes are variable. Anyone who understands the art of making summer rolls themselves has virtually free rein when it comes to the filling. The ingredients have to be fresh, selected herbs are the icing on the cake. The same applies to many one-pot dishes. As long as the broth is balanced and flavorful, you can add whatever your heart desires.
