Six departments in the South West of France have been placed on orange alert, Friday July 7, by Météo France in its 6 o’clock bulletin. These are Lot-et-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Landes, Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées. The Meteorological Institute plans to “violent thunderstorms, with hail and very strong gusts of wind”. Towards the middle of the afternoon, the first storms will concern the Basque country, writes Meteo-France. These storms will be locally accompanied by gusts of wind greater than 100 km/h, hailstorms and heavy rains (30 mm in a very short time).
