Situation in Afghanistan: Warning of terrorist threat from “ISIS-K”

Time is running out, the situation is becoming more and more dangerous: While many people are still hoping for rescue at Kabul airport, secret services are warning of possible terrorist attacks by the Afghan IS branch.

“They think only God can rule”

A regional group of the “Islamic State” has also been active in Afghanistan for years. It is called “ISIS-K”. The USA and the Taliban have been trying to fight “ISIS-K” for years. More than four years ago, the US dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb in the east of Afghanistan, where “ISIS-K” had conquered some districts in the country.

Nevertheless, around 2,000 fighters are said to have been active in the terror group to date, former Taliban fighters as well as Islamists from Pakistan. They are even more unpredictable than the Taliban, says Colin P. Clarke.

In his book “The End of the Caliphate”, Clarke writes about the future of the terrorist group “Islamic State” and gave an interview to the US broadcaster CNN:

They don’t even believe in a political agenda, they think only God can rule. Even the Islamic emirate that the Taliban are now trying to establish does not go far enough for them. They want to recruit the greatest sociopaths in Afghanistan and are extremely violent against anyone who stands in their way.

Thousands of people flee to Pakistan

Numerous attacks in Kabul, on girls’ schools, mosques or even a maternity clinic are the result of the terrorist group “ISIS-K”. This is one of the reasons why the Bundeswehr is starting its last flights today. There is a constant and great danger of a terrorist attack, the embassies write to their compatriots. That would end the German airlift today.

Tens of thousands of people have been flown out of Kabul airport in the past few days. The USA will also have to stop its flights in the next few days. The last US soldiers are said to have left Afghanistan on Tuesday.
