"Sing my song": These are this year’s stars

The eleventh season of “Sing my Song” is in the starting blocks. Seven exceptional artists will exchange their most beautiful songs with each other.

Johannes Oerding (42) invites you to South Africa again. On April 23rd (at 8:15 p.m. on VOX) “Sing meine Song” enters its eleventh season. Since 2014, the format has been delighting viewers year after year with its musical highlights, private insights into the artists’ lives and all kinds of goosebumps moments. For the fourth time, Oerding is the host and will lead the evenings.

At the exchange concert, each musician is given their own evening. Each of the other participants covers one of the artist’s songs and makes it sound in completely different tones. Six new faces have taken on the task of interpreting their colleagues’ hits. For the first time this year there is also a star guest who only appears on one evening. These are the participants of the eleventh season “Sing my song”:

Eva Briegel

The first evening is all about Eva Briegel (45). The Leonberg native is better known as the front woman of the pop-rock band Juli. She enjoyed huge success with her in the early 2000s. Their first single, “The Perfect Wave,” stayed in the German charts for half a year. July 2006 won a Bambi in the national music category. Briegel is in a relationship with Andy Penn (45), the guitarist of the band MIA. The two have a daughter and live in Berlin.

Tim bendzko

On the second evening, the songs will be performed by Tim Bendzko (39). The singer studied Protestant theology in Berlin, but dropped out after five semesters. After a short interlude with the Sons of Mannheim, he celebrated his breakthrough in 2011 with his debut album “If Words Were My Language”. Numerous other German-language pop hits, awards and tours followed. Bendzko is an old hand on TV: He was already on the jury for “The Voice Kids” and took part in “The Masked Singer” and “Schlag den Star”.

Sammy Amara

Sammy Amara (45) comes from the punk rock genre. He is the frontman of the band Broilers, which has been around for 30 years. Over time, the musical style of the Düsseldorf musicians from Oi! and punk in the direction of rock, influences from rockabilly and ska are also strongly represented. The Broilers gained greater fame as the opening act for the Toten Hosen. They now fill halls on their own and are welcome guests on festival stages. Amara also works as a graphic designer.

Special guest Peter Maffay

Peter Maffay (74) is only doing the honors for the third evening in South Africa. Born in Romania, he emigrated to Germany with his parents at the age of 14. Today he is one of the most successful singers in the country. He landed his first big hit in 1970 with the song “Du”, which became the biggest German-language hit of the year. To date, Maffay has sold more than 40 million records and made thousands of children’s eyes shine with his fairy tale “Tabaluga”. There was also a lot going on in his private life in the Maffay household: He is married for the fifth time and has three children.

Emilio Sakraya

Much newer in the business is Berliner Emilio Sakraya (27), who performs under the stage name Emilio. He started his career as an actor and appeared in the films “Times Change You”, “Bibi and Tina” and “Cold Feet”, among others. In 2016 he released his first single “Down by the Lake”, which was then still in English. He quickly switched to German pop songs. So far, Sakraya has released two albums and has become an absolute heartthrob.

Eko Fresh

Evening six is ​​dedicated to Eko Fresh (40) and his hits. The Cologne native began rapping and writing songs at the age of 15. In 2003 he celebrated his first successes after Kool Savas pushed him. In 2013 he reached the top of the charts for the first time with his seventh solo album “Eksodus”. Eko Fresh, whose native name is Ekrem Bora, is also an actor and a welcome guest on TV shows. He has a son with his wife Sarah.

Joy Denalane

Joy Denalane (50) gets the last exchange evening. The soul and R&B singer became known to a wider audience after she collaborated on the 1999 single “Mit dir” by the hip-hop band Freundeskreis, which became the summer hit of the year. Denalane is still in a relationship with band member Max Herre (50) and has two sons. Her debut album “Mamani” was released in 2002, in which she combines Anglo-American and African music with German lyrics. Denalane has released six albums so far and is called the “Queen of German Soul”.
