Round anniversary for “Sing meine Song”: Musicians met for the tenth time to sing their songs to each other. Not only the moderator was there before. And so the exchange concert became a class reunion.

The old moderator is also the new one: As in the two previous years, Johannes Oerding once again welcomes the musical guests of “Sing mein Song”. So far so familiar – that a musician acts as host several times in a row is common on the Vox show. It is unusual, however, that the majority of the stars who traveled to South Africa are already old friends: Nico Santos, LEA, Clueso and Stefanie Kloß have all taken part in the exchange concert. With the rapper Montez and the singer Alli Neumann there are only two newcomers in the group.

The atmosphere is correspondingly familiar: right from the start it feels like a class reunion. The first champagne corks pop immediately, the grill is fired up and Nico Santos predicts: “I think one or the other glass could be drunk too much tonight.”

The new season begins with the music of Stefanie Kloß from Silbermond, who is introduced as “Germany’s most famous front woman”. She seems to be visibly enjoying her stay in South Africa: “How beautiful life is right here at this moment,” says the 38-year-old.

“Sing my song”: Montez starts

The hardest task this evening falls to newcomer Montez, who has to step in front of the microphone first. The 29-year-old has taken on the silver moon hit “Exactly” – and edited it creatively. He rewrites the song specifically for the current moment: “As beautiful as we are sitting / here in South Africa in the evening light / you know, I love the thought / that it’s been the same for 10 years.” With that, he provided the first highlight and made everyone dance.

Clueso makes Stefanie Kloß cry for the first time that evening with his acoustic version of “Light Luggage”. Alli Neumann’s approach was creative, giving “Mein Osten” a whole new twist. While Kloß refers to her origins in East Germany, Neumann goes even further east: the musician lived in Poland until she was six. Appropriately, she also sings parts in Polish. Musically, she weaves in polka influences and wears a traditional costume. Kloß was enthusiastic: “You’re really a grenade!”

Oerding performs the personal song “In my memory”, which Stefanie Kloß wrote about the father’s death – and tears flow again promptly. The 38-year-old then goes to the microphone herself and sings “Hey Ma”, a song about her mother.

“This song will be our song of the season”

The early work “Zeit für Optimisten” will be performed by LEA. A revelation for Stefanie Kloß: “It all makes sense again now,” she says about her own text: “We’re all people who see the glass half full rather than half empty, even if it’s shitty, but we do can try.” Nico Santos ends the evening with “The Best”. And he feels a special pressure, after all it is his wife’s favorite song.

They will probably have been satisfied with the performance. But the flower for the best performance of the evening goes to someone else: Montez is awarded for his creative editing of “Exactly”. And Stefanie Kloß wishes: “This song will be our song of the season.”
