Anyone who longs for a city trip will quickly find themselves at the limits of what they can afford given the rising prices in restaurants and hotels when the euro is not so loose.
You can also go on a city trip on a small budget if you choose the right sights and activities. The online booking portal “Holidu” used a data analysis to find out which of the 30 most popular European cities have the most free offers for tourists – and created a ranking based on this. We present the first places to you in the picture gallery.
Specifically, the experts looked at which museums are permanently free, which sights are accessible free of charge and how many events and city tours are offered for free in each metropolis. The most popular free offers include the East Side Gallery in Berlin, the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin and the Great Botanical Garden in Copenhagen.

If you don’t want to base your city trip solely on free offers, you can also save by taking a water bottle with you instead of buying drinks on the way. It’s also worth traveling in the off-season, as accommodation is usually cheaper then. If you avoid typical tourist spots and visit restaurants or cafés in more remote corners, you can also save money – especially if you reach them by public transport and avoid renting a car or taxi.
