Sick King Charles shows up after church service

As of: March 31, 2024 3:42 p.m

After the Easter service, King Charles and his wife Camilla chatted with people waiting outside the church. So far, so normal, if it weren’t for Charles’ cancer. Observers speak of a sign of hope.

Onlookers had gathered outside Windsor Castle to catch a glimpse of King Charles and other members of the royal family as they attend the Easter service at St George’s Chapel. Given his illness, it is particularly important to show support for the king, a young man told the BBC: “We want to cheer for him when he shows up!”

When Charles and his wife Camilla’s limousine pulled up, the two paused briefly and smiled and waved towards those waiting. It was then said on social networks that the king appeared healthier than in a photo that was published on Maundy Thursday.

The real surprise came after the hour-long service: Charles and Camilla shook hands with onlookers for minutes, the king – without gloves – accepted well-wishes and cards: “All the best and hang in there!” – “I hope you didn’t freeze while waiting,” says the king thanks.

Hardly any appointments for King Charles

Royal family expert Jenny Bond told Sky broadcaster that Charles knew how important it was to appear in public as head of state. “You can take it as a sign that your treatment is working well.” In order to protect himself and protect himself from infections due to his possibly weakened immune system, King Charles is currently only attending appointments with individual people.

Last week, however, he met with twelve representatives of various religious groups at the same time. The fact that his medical team agrees to such encounters is seen as an indication that he is doing well under the circumstances. On Maundy Thursday, the palace released an audio clip in which the king emphasized the importance of extending the hand of friendship to others.

Kate has retired with her family

While Charles shows awareness at Easter, the family of his daughter-in-law Kate, who also has cancer, has withdrawn. Conspiracy myths had been raging on social media for weeks about what might have happened to Kate after she didn’t show herself for weeks and finally published a photoshopped family photo. Nine days ago, the wife of heir to the throne William explained in a video clip that she was also being treated for cancer and was asking for time and peace to recover.

William, Kate and their three children spend Easter at their country estate in Norfolk. Royal family observer Bond believes that they actually have peace and quiet there. Kate is continuing her treatment and wants to offer the children normality. “The King supports their retirement. The children love country life in Norfolk. And they have the privacy they deserve there and won’t be bothered. And that’s good news.”
