The Giro has just lost a new contender for the final podium: Aleksandr Vlasov abandoned the event on Tuesday during the 10th stage. With the rain still falling on the Italian roads, the leader of the Bora – Hansgrohe team, ill, was unable to keep up with the pace of the peloton. The Russian was in sixth place overall, 1’03” behind Geraint Thomas at the start of the stage. The Bora formation will now rely on Lennard Kämna (8th) for the overall fight.
