Viewers of the Vox show “Showtime of my Life” will witness a memorable moment tonight: pop singer Mickie Krause finds out about his cancer diagnosis in front of the camera.

The concern of the show is serious, but so that as many people as possible get the message, the topic is implemented in an entertaining way: In “Showtime of my Life – Stars against Cancer”, prominent people drop their covers to draw the audience to the importance of cancer prevention to point out. Vox will be devoting two evenings to this topic. This Tuesday (8.15 p.m.) it is the men’s turn.

Heiko Wasser, Jan Sosniok, Oli Petszokat, Pascal Hens, Michael Roth, Benjamin Köhler, Kim Tränka and Mickie Krause meet to study a choreography. They should take off their clothes as telegenically as possible. It’s correspondingly cheerful here in front of the camera.

But before the lords of creation get started, it’s all about cancer prevention. The atmosphere is relaxed there too. “I’m not worried, I think my health is fine,” says Mickie Krause a few minutes before he goes to the urologist, who will subject him to an ultrasound examination. Krause is still joking: “Please no urologist jokes,” he says, while the doctor scans his abdomen. “Not that I piss myself laughing anymore.”

But shortly thereafter, the mood singer becomes very serious. The doctor tells him his diagnosis: he suspects that there is a tumor in the bladder. In order to clarify this, Krause is transferred to the Charité for a more detailed examination. This confirms his worst fears: there is a tumor in his bladder. There are moving moments: while the musician learns about the shocking diagnosis, the camera is focused on his still face. What the 51-year-old is thinking at the moment – you can only guess.

Now there will certainly be critics who think that the camera has no place in such a moment. That it’s voyeuristic to show this scene on TV. But that’s exactly the point of “Showtime of my Life”: To point out the importance of cancer prevention to the viewers. And Mickie Krause gives it a face.

Krause himself has strong motivation for his participation on the show: his friend and career promoter passed away from cancer in 2016. Since then, it has been particularly important to him to encourage other people to take precautions.

In addition to all these serious topics, there are many entertaining and relaxed moments. Krause also talks very openly about an operation that was carried out on him: After becoming a father for the fourth time, he had himself sterilized, according to Krause. He hasn’t felt any less masculine since then. “Quite the opposite. I’ve found that my sexual need has increased as a result.”

His other intervention also seems to have gone well: Michael Engels, as the singer’s real name is, has now been operated on and has survived everything well. And his fans will also get their money’s worth tonight: Despite the diagnosis, Krause drops his covers on television.

“Showtime of my Life – Stars Against Cancer” can be seen on February 15 and 22 at 8:15 p.m. on Vox. The full episode will be available after the broadcast available for retrieval on RTL+.
