Shock in Germering: 32-year-old encounters a bomb in the garden – Fürstenfeldbruck

Shock while gardening: A 32-year-old Germeringer found a bomb in his garden on Dorfstrasse on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, 50 residents of the surrounding houses had to be temporarily accommodated by the fire brigade. They were cared for there. It then took two employees from the explosive ordnance clearance service just under half an hour to defuse the bomb. The lockdown was lifted around 4 p.m. and residents were able to return to their homes.

According to the police report, Germeringer wanted to dig up the roots of a hedge that had already been removed. With his spade, the man came across a metal object – an aerial bomb about 50 centimeters long. He notified the police. Officials sent photos of the bomb to the explosive ordnance clearance service. The clearance service was able to identify an American ten-kilogram fragmentation bomb with a kilogram of explosive material.

Until the arrival of the specialists, the site was cordoned off within a radius of 100 meters, and the residents of the houses were taken to safety. The fire brigades in Germering, Unterpfaffenhofen, Emmering and Maisach, the technical relief organization and the Red Cross from Germering, Olching, Fürstenfeldbruck, Gröbenzell and Gilching, and the water rescue service in Fürstenfeldbruck all worked together. A total of 55 homes were in the area that was evacuated. “Thanks to the great commitment of all fire brigades, rescue and emergency services involved, the explosive ordnance disposal teams were able to start their work immediately after their arrival,” says the police report. Because the area had been completely evacuated by then.
