Burglary at Verona Pooth: The perpetrators cleared the family villa in Meerbusch on Christmas Eve. They stole cash and items worth over 100,000 euros. The removal was particularly bold.

They were not at home for a few hours: Verona Pooth and her family were victims of burglars. As the advertising icon of the “Bild” newspaper confirmed, the perpetrators cleared the Pooths’ villa in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf on Christmas Eve. They stole cash, bags and jewelry worth several hundred thousand euros. The burglars tore a firmly anchored safe from the wall – and transported it from Verona Pooth by car.

“They were in all the rooms, worst of all, even in the children’s rooms. They tore out the drawers and rummaged through everything,” Pooth told the newspaper. The perpetrators proceeded very professionally. They specifically searched for cash, jewelry and also stole valuable bags. “They were professionals who took the 15 to 20 most expensive models with them,” said Pooth. Her complete wedding jewelry is also gone.

According to their own statements, the family first spent Christmas Eve in the house – in a “cozy Christmas mood”. A Christmas photo was taken in front of the Christmas tree. Later that evening Verona, Franjo and their sons San Diego and Rocco went to see Franjo’s parents. When they got back around 11 p.m., they noticed broken glass in front of the house. It quickly became clear: there were intruders there.

Franjo Pooth ran into the house. “I was so shocked that I just shivered and couldn’t even choose 110,” said Verona Pooth. The burglars had left a trail of havoc in the house. Cupboards had been broken into and torn out, furniture knocked over and valuable carpets destroyed.

Verona Pooth no longer feels safe

As the police in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss confirmed, the break-in at Pooth is not the first in the area. Burglaries have been increasing in Neuss and Meerbusch for several days. It is unclear whether the perpetrators knew that it was a celebrity villa. The investigation is ongoing. Apparently the burglars even managed to turn off the alarm system. Particularly bold: Images from a surveillance camera show how the perpetrators in the Fiat 500 from Pooth, into which they had heaved the heavy safe, flee.

It is completely unclear whether the family will ever get the stolen valuables back. For Verona Pooth, the material loss is not the worst, but the fact that she can no longer feel safe in her own house. “I feel defenseless like a turtle whose shell has been taken away.”
