Sharp criticism of Kubicki’s paid cruise

Bundestag Vice President Kubicki appeared as a talk show guest on a cruise ship in the Caribbean – and got the trip partially paid for. The SPD and the Greens therefore sharply criticize the FDP politician.

The appearance of FDP politician Wolfgang Kubicki on a cruise ship in the Caribbean caused criticism from politicians from the coalition partners SPD and the Greens. “Someone who holds the office of deputy chairman of the Bundestag naturally has a certain role model function,” said the First Parliamentary Managing Director of the Green Party, Irene Mihalic, to the Editorial Network Germany (RND). “Especially at a time when we are talking intensively about budget issues, it is questionable to sponsor a cruise.”

“Caribbean sun gone to your head”

The SPD deputy parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch also told the RND that Kubicki seemed to have “got the Caribbean sun a little to his head”. “We want to live climate-neutrally by 2045 – this requirement of the Constitutional Court also applies.”

According to his office, Kubicki appeared on a talk show hosted by Sabine Christiansen on “Europa 2”. He received no payment for his appearance. “It is common practice for board and lodging to also be covered if appropriate agreements are made,” it said.

Against Minister of Economic Affairs Habeck handed out

The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on Kubicki’s trip and appearance. He lashed out against the Green Economics Minister Robert Habeck and indirectly called for his resignation. “The fact that Mr. Kubicki said, ‘Heating law gone or Habeck gone,’ is a shortened representation of what was said,” Kubicki’s office said on Sunday.

At the RND, Kubicki dealt again against Habeck. When asked whether he thought high-ranking officials were role models, he said: “Yes, but differently than you might think. An example: Robert Habeck is Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, but he is not a role model for me.”
