Shares – Dax almost compensates for losses – economy

Prices on the German stock market stabilized on Tuesday after initial losses. In the wake of a friendly Wall Street, the dax in the course of trading, despite a difficult environment, largely made up for it and ended the trading session only slightly lower at 14,153 points. Previously, the ongoing fighting in Ukraine and renewed speculation about more rapid US interest rate hikes had dampened investor sentiment and temporarily pushed the leading German index by 1.2 percent to just below the 14,000 point mark.

In this country, it was above all industry-related mood trends that moved prices. In particular, German car stocks performed positively. Papers from the supplier Continental rose by almost four percent at the top of the Dax. The shares of Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz rose between 2.7 and 1.5 percent. Over the long Easter weekend, it became known that the VW plants in Changchun, China, were gradually resuming production after a month’s standstill.

On the losing side were mainly stocks that were seen as winners of the corona pandemic in the past two years. These include some stocks from the online and technology sector, but above all health stocks: The stocks of the laboratory equipment manufacturer Sartorius were among the weaker stocks in the Dax with a minus of almost two percent, the shares of the chemical and pharmaceutical group Merck KGaA brought up the rear fell by 3.7 percent. The shares of the online delivery service Delivery Hero fell by 1.5 percent. In the M-Dax, Hypoport’s shares fell by almost ten percent. Experts have recently indicated that higher interest rates and rising construction costs are not conducive to the financial services provider’s real estate business.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones by more than one percent by mid-trade. Among stocks, the focus was on Johnson & Johnson stock, which rose four percent to hit a record high after the announcement of first-quarter results. The consumer goods and pharmaceuticals group beat expectations and increases its dividend.
