Update, 6:22 p.m.: Things are anything but smooth for the guests from Aberdeen in the Scottish league. After five matchdays, the club is still without a win and is in second-to-last place in the table with just two points. So the self-confidence shouldn’t be huge.
Update from Thursday, September 21st, 5:35 p.m.: Eintracht Frankfurt’s lineup is here. Captain Sebastian Rode is back and will start in central midfield. In defense, Smolcic is preferred over Tuta and the young Aaronson slides into the team. Marmoush starts in place of Ngankam in the storm.
First report: Frankfurt – The Conference League adventure starts for Eintracht Frankfurt against FC Aberdeen. The SGE is the big favorite in the duel with the Scottish club and should not underestimate the strong team from the island, which will most likely approach the game very defensively.

“Aberdeen FC have two good strikers and, in Clarkson, a ball-savvy six. They go for second balls but are not a typical Scottish team. If you let them play, their quality comes through. The defense is aggressive and rustic,” said SGE head coach Dino Toppmöller before the game against the Scots.
“We are aware of the importance of the first group game. We would like to continue our decent start to the season with a home win. We know how difficult the task is, but also how we are favorites. We want to do justice to this,” continued the coach, who can rely on almost his entire squad: “Apart from Jakic, who still has knee problems, everyone is on board. Sebastian Rode has recovered from his illness. He took part in part of the team training yesterday and all of it today. If everything is okay tomorrow, he will be in the starting line-up.” So Toppmöller can make full use of the starting line-up and certainly surprise.
Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp is really excited about the new competition: “The anticipation is great. We have worked for a year to be able to compete internationally for the third time in a row. Tomorrow there will be the reward.” But he warns against taking the opponent lightly: “We shouldn’t let ourselves be blinded by FC Aberdeen’s league start. A good task awaits us.”

The goalkeeper holds back with one goal: he wants to first master the preliminary round with his team: “We aim to be as successful as possible. It is a new competition that we take as seriously as possible. But first we have to get through the group phase. We want to start with that tomorrow.”
Trapp is not worried about the many departures of top performers. “The accompanying circumstances of success are the departure of top performers. That’s part of football. This summer there were a few more. We are relatively far away from that. The team has potential. The three-day rhythm can help us get used to it more quickly,” said the 32-year-old before the Aberdeen game. (smr)
