Sexual misery, scientific nonsense?

In October 2022, our journalist Lina Fourneau sees a warning cry on social networks. That of Maghla, twitcher. The latter publishes a thread on Twitter to lift the veil on the cyberbullying of which she is the victim.

But the attention of our journalist then turns to the comments published under this post. The occurrence of a term jumps out at him: sexual misery. Internet users, male, accuse the streamer of playing with the sexual misery of men, and then complaining about the violence she receives.

Scientific nonsense

In this new episode of “Tout Sexplication”, Lina Fourneau returns to the use of the expression “sexual misery” and its scientific nonsense. She thus reports the words of Sébastien Landry, psycho-sexologist. According to him, the sexual need has no scientific basis: “We do not die of sexual need”.

The use of this term also induces the problematic existence of a norm in terms of sexuality. However, according to Lina Fourneau, as well as for the experts she interviewed, it is not a question of denying the lack of certain people, but of stopping to relate this lack to an unalterable need that must be satisfied.

“It is a historical construction based on the domination of men over women,” she reports, based on the words of historian Maëlle Bernard. “This term is complicated to use because it means that we reach such a point of sexual need that we could tolerate all kinds of acts”. Also, it alerts. “Today some women are raped, victims of sexual violence, moral harassment, in the name of this idea of sexual misery”.
