As often in the Europa League, in the end, Sevilla FC wins. The Andalusian club won the final of the competition on Wednesday May 31 in Budapest, against AS Roma after the penalty shootout (1-1, 4-1 on pens). Already winners of the competition six times since 2006 and their first victory in the competition at the time, Sevilla FC won the Europa League for the seventh time, a record.

Andalusian supporters flooded the pitch after Gonzalo Montiel’s shot on goal, which had already scored that of Argentina’s victory against France in the World Cup final. Before the Sevillian defender, Roger Ibanez and Gianluca Mancini had missed their attempt for AS Roma. The unfortunate Mancini is the one who revived Sevilla in this meeting, scoring against his camp at the start of the second period (55th).

Before that, the Romans, overall dominant in this final, had opened the scoring by Paulo Dybala (35th). José Mourinho’s team, already winners of the Europa League conference last year, were considering a double European cup. But the experience of Sevilla FC therefore made the difference and crowned José Luis Mendilibar, coach who took over the Andalusian club in difficulty during the season, and all of its players.
