In the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol, it rained briefly but heavily during the night. This has consequences – also for vacationers.

Heavy rainfall has occurred in the Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Tirol triggered several mudslides. As reported by the Austrian police, vacationers were also affected by these debris flows on Thursday.

In Tyrol, masses of mud laid a hiking trail in the Holzgau area. A group of eight hikers – according to the police, most probably came from Germany – then made an emergency call. They were brought unharmed to the valley by emergency services. Police and mountain rescue did not provide any more detailed information about the hikers.

In the Salzburger Land, the car of holidaymakers from the Arab world was hit by a debris flow on Pass Thurn Straße near Mittersill and pushed against a crash barrier. The 44-year-old driver and his 39-year-old passenger were able to get out of the car. The two were also unharmed, but suffered a shock.

The town of Mittersill was hit particularly hard by the short but severe storm. A stream burst its banks. Five houses were damaged and one family had to be temporarily evacuated.
