Several people evacuated, threatened by rising waters

The Gard firefighters carried out several safety measures for people threatened by the rising waters on Sunday. The department of Gard is placed in orange vigilance for storms, rain-flooding and floods, and in vigilance young violent wind by the services of Météo-France.

The high intensity Cevennes episode which started during the day is still underway on Sunday evening, a rain-storm line sweeps from west to east the Gard. The river Luech overflowed at the places known as Pont de Rastel and Chambon. In Chamborigaud, several homes were affected as well as the Les Esparnettes campsite, which had to be evacuated. They were collected in the multipurpose room of the town. At 10 pm: no casualties were to be deplored.

No casualties, Sunday at 10 p.m.

One hundred and forty firefighters and forty vehicles are mobilized to fight against the consequences of this Cévenol episode. The device will be reinforced by a civil security helicopter as well as by two groups of whitewater rescuers from Sdis des Bouches-du-Rhône and Aveyron.

Numerous non-urgent interventions (infiltrations or flooded premises) are on standby, the emergency services being devoted exclusively to personal assistance. While this Cevennes episode could last until Monday, the Gard department – and in particular the city of Nîmes – has already been affected by violent bad weather in mid-September, which had caused enormous damage without happily causing a victim.
