An inmate at the Aschaffenburg prison apparently set his own mattress on fire. As a result, the 21-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, the police said. The cell’s fire alarm went off on Friday afternoon and prison officials opened the cell door to get the inmate out.
Several officers then also had to be treated by the emergency services because of possible smoke inhalation. Previously this had Main Echo reported about it. The criminal police are now investigating the motive for the crime. According to initial estimates, there was no damage to property apart from the mattress.
