Shortly after take-off at Stuttgart Airport, a small plane crashes in a forest in the Böblingen district of Baden-Württemberg. At the crash site, helpers find three dead. Many questions remain open at first.
After a small plane crashed in a forest near Steinenbronn (Böblingen district), emergency services found three bodies at the crash site. The identities of the victims are still unclear, said a police spokesman. The recovery of the bodies has not yet been completed. The wreck of the single-engine machine of the type “Piper” lies in a densely forested area.
The plane took off from Stuttgart Airport at around 9:40 a.m. As the police announced on SWR request, a witness had reported the crash around 9:45 a.m.
The cause of the crash is still unclear
The cause of the crash was initially unclear, the investigations are ongoing. The flight recorder could be recovered according to the information. An expert from the Federal Office for Aircraft Accident Investigations was also at the crash site, it said.
The police, rescue service and fire brigade have been on site with a large contingent for hours, the crash site was cordoned off over a large area.
Pilot did not make a distress call
According to an initial report from the German Air Traffic Control (DFS), the single-engine machine was on its way to Magdeburg. Three people were on board, said a spokeswoman. Shortly after take-off, the pilot reported again to the control center in Langen, after which the machine disappeared from the radar. “The pilot did not make an emergency call,” said the spokeswoman.
Whether technical defects or a medical emergency in the pilot could have caused the crash, the investigation should reveal in the coming days, said a police spokesman.
