Seventeen departments on orange alert for “strong winds”

Storm Aurora hit northern France overnight and is expected to set in for the day. Strong winds hit Upper Normandy and part of Picardy last night, already affecting the Paris region in the dead of night. The disturbance is expected to shift eastward during the day.

As a result, Météo-France has placed 17 departments on orange alert for “strong winds”: Calvados, Eure, Oise, Seine-Maritime, Somme, Haute-Marne, Marne, Ardennes, Meuse, Aisne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Paris, Essonne, Val-d’Oise and Loiret.

Gusts to 175 km / h were recorded in Fécamp (76) last night. The squalls will remain present in the northern half of the country all day, with gusts expected at 80 km / h, with a heavy sky. A yellow wave-submersion vigilance is also marked out for Finistère, Morbihan and Seine-Maritime due to worsening sea conditions and rising sea levels.
