seven police officers in disciplinary council after the feminicide of Mérignac

The sanctions begin to fall five months after the feminicide of Mérignac near Bordeaux. Chahinez Daoud, a 31-year-old woman, had been burned alive by her husband in the middle of the street. According to
FranceInfo, the zonal director of public security (DZSP) of the Southwest should receive a reprimand in the coming days while seven other police officers will quickly be summoned to the disciplinary council.

The latter are all suspected of having made serious errors of assessment. The young woman, for example, had filed a complaint against her husband (already sentenced to prison for domestic violence) a month and a half before being killed, in March. Still according to FranceInfo, two commissioners, two commanders, a major, a brigadier-chief and a peacekeeper will therefore go to a disciplinary council in the coming weeks.

Sanctions can range from a simple warning to total revocation

As a reminder, the police officer who had collected the victim’s complaint had himself been convicted of domestic violence in February 2021. He has already gone to a disciplinary council for these facts and he proposed a penalty of one year of temporary exclusion from his duties and one year of suspended sentence. The General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN) must now confirm this sanction.

During these disciplinary councils, the sanctions can range from a simple warning to total dismissal. Finally, the DGPN was more severe than the recommendations of the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) who had not even mentioned the zonal director of public security.
