Seven-day value at 13.2: incidence is increasing – especially among younger people

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections is now 13.2 – an increase of 4.6 points within one week. There are new infections especially in the group of 15 to 34 year olds.

The coronavirus continues to spread in Germany – and with the new infections, the seven-day incidence has risen continuously, now for two weeks. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the morning, it was 13.2 – the previous day the value was 12.2 and at the latest low on July 6, 4.9.

The health authorities reported 2089 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago, the value for Germany was 1456 infections. The incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values ​​such as hospital admissions are to be taken into account to a greater extent.

According to the new information, 34 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 18 dead. The RKI has counted 3,752,592 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,643,300. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,492.

Incidence increase especially among 15 to 34 year olds

The RKI continues to speak of a relaxed infection situation in Germany – but warns with a view to autumn to prevent the impending increase in the number of cases. The focus is particularly on the younger generation, because according to the RKI, the increase in incidence over the past few weeks has mainly been observed in people between the ages of 15 and 34. While the values ​​in the groups aged 60 and over changed only minimally and at a very low level in the past few weeks (less than five cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days), the RKI recorded relatively strong increases for younger people.

The highest seven-day incidence of 32 in the past week was recorded in adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 24. At this age, severe disease courses from Covid-19 are relatively rare.

48 percent with full vaccination protection

However, this group is not yet as well protected against the coronavirus – the vaccination rates for people under 60 are significantly lower than for those over 60. The Standing Vaccination Commission has not yet issued a vaccination recommendation for young people under 16.

According to the RKI, around 60 percent of the German population has currently been vaccinated against the corona virus. 48 percent have the full protection, for which a second vaccination is necessary for most vaccines. According to the RKI, so-called herd immunity is achieved with a vaccination rate of more than 80 percent.
