In Fortnite Servers are going down today, September 18th, on all platforms (PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Android). The maintenance work will be used to load the new update 22.00 for Season 4 onto the servers. Preliminary patch notes for the update can be found here.
What’s happening in Fortnite today? The battle royal shooter is finally getting its new 4th season for Chapter 3. It not only brings cool map changes into play, but also new weapons, mechanics, skins and much more.
What you can expect in the server down, whether it runs smoothly and which leaks are revealed, you can find out in the following part of our article.

Fortnite: Server Down – When and how long is it offline?
This is the downtime in the morning: Downtime begins officially according to Epic Games at 8 a.m. German time. Relatively early compared to other updates. The developers themselves also warn all players against that this is a bigger one compared to other updates.
When can you play again? Experience has shown that all Fortnite modes are deactivated half an hour before the update. After that, the servers will shut down at 8am and you will all be kicked out of the game. At some point Epic Games will let you download the update and after the download you should be able to log in again.
With such a server down for a new season, however, it gets more complicated. The file is usually larger and there are often delays, bugs or problems that push Epic Games’ schedule further and further back. So we assume that you won’t be able to log back into Fortnite until around noon.
When are the patch notes coming? When a new season starts, the patch notes will also be officially released by Epic Games later in the day. We will summarize these for you compactly and briefly in our article.
What new content does update 22.00 bring?
What’s new for Season 4? This is what the official patch notes say:
New item – The Chrome Slime
Epic Games has designed a new throwable item. The “Chrome Slime” sticks to all platforms and ensures that you can even step through walls. However, if you want to be invulnerable to fire, simply throw the new grenade at your feet.
This allows you to avoid taking fall damage for a short time, gain increased movement speed, and even run through walls.
New POIs including Herald’s Sanctum and Cloudy Condos
With a new season comes new places on the map for players to explore. This time they include:
- The Sanctuary of the Harbinger
- Cloudy condos

New weapons for your battles
In Season 4, fans of the BR shooter will also get new guns for their heated battles. Including two EvoChrome weapons that increase their rarity by themselves when you hit enemies. Target safety pays off. These weapons can only be found in chrome chests scattered around the map.

Sniper rifles finally come in handy again
The sniper rifles in Fortnite really suffered from a massive nerf in Season 3. So it took several headshots before you could destroy an opponent. With the Seaosn 4 update, the precision multiplier changes again. A shot to the head is now enough to kill enemies again. The following weapons now benefit from it:
- Bolting hunting rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- hunting rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- Automatic sniper rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- lever-action rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- Suppressed sniper rifle – Damage increased
- Semi-automatic sniper rifle – Damage increased

- Bolt action sniper rifle – Damage increased
- Heavy sniper rifle – Headshot multiplier increased
- Storm Scout Sniper Rifle – Headshot multiplier increased

New vault keys on the map
In Season 4, the vaults full of loot still exist, but they work a little differently now. To open them now, you need special vault keys. With a bit of luck you will be able to find these in the course of a few matches.
Only with these keys you can now open the safes. To unlock a low locking level you need one key, at a high level you need two keys, but you also get more loot for free.
The safes are marked with a keyhole symbol on the map as soon as you have a key.
New device – The pocket bunker
In a new season, no new gadgets should be missing. This time, the Epic Games think tank has come up with something unusual. A pocket-sized mini bunker. With it you get the opportunity to place a compact bunker in combat. This includes reinforced metal walls, doors and a ramp. You can even use the device in non-build mode.
Small adjustment when sliding
Epic Games has made sure that when you slide, you can now knock back enemies if you hit them.
Competition Note
- Firefly Jars and Shockwave Grenades are not available in Competitive game modes.
Penalties for Prohibited Hardware
Epic Games does not tolerate any form of cheating in its game. For this reason, all Cronus Zen and Cronus Max owners are advised not to use them. If you attempt to circumvent Fortnite’s system and still use them, you will be permanently banned.

New slime gun and a rifle
The new trailer for Season 4 not only showed skins and other changes, but also two new weapons. These include a slime cannon that’s downright deadly and capable of taking down multiple enemies at once, and a new DMR-style rifle.
New Battle Pass with Marvel Superheroine
The new Battle Pass for Season 4 has also been released. You can look forward to a new Marvel superheroine, as well as other cool creations from Epic Games.
