The Japanese series “Turn to me, Mukai-kun” describes in an unsentimental manner how difficult Japanese men have to achieve equal rights for women.
At times it looks as if Satoru Mukai has reached his destination in his search for love. He is back together with Miwako, who left him ten years earlier, even though he always thought she was the woman of his life. The old attraction seems to be back. But then he takes her aside and tells her how glad he is that they are together again. Miwako looks thoughtful. Satoru pauses. “We’re together, aren’t we?” – “I don’t think so,” Miwako answers quietly, and once again a piece of the world collapses in the life of the Japanese company employee Satoru Mukai.
