When Agüero started his world career in Argentina, Bayern also had their eye on the then youngster. But nothing came of a transfer.

Sergio Agüero explained why in 2006 nothing came of a transfer to FC Bayern Munich, which was then among the interested parties.

The former world-class striker caused a sensation at his hometown club Independiente in Argentina at the age of just 17, and in April 2006 it was the headline of the Argentine sports newspaper Ole already, Agüero will switch to Bayern. “Bayern Munich came to see me in a game against Estudiantes de la Plata,” wrote the 33-year-old, who had to end his career in December due to heart problemson Tuesday Twitter.

Bayern got Sosa instead of Aguero

However, Agüero was not particularly convincing in that game – on the contrary: “I just played terribly and they were enthusiastic about José Sosa. They bought him.”

Sosa from opponent Estudiantes moved to Bayern a year later, in the summer of 2007, for nine million euros. However, the midfielder was never able to establish himself in Munich, was loaned back to Estudiantes in 2009 and finally sold to Naples in 2010.

Instead of going to Munich, Agüero went to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2006, where he matured into a world star. He scored 101 goals in 234 competitive games for the Spaniards before moving to Manchester City in 2011.
