Sergei Lavrov arrives in North Korea, a month after Kim Jong Un’s visit to Russia

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Tuesday the use of US ATACMS missiles, without specifying where or when they were fired. Neither the United States nor Ukraine had yet announced delivery. ATACMS missiles will “dope” Ukrainian military capabilities, according to the White House.
  • Washington’s decision to supply Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles is “a serious mistake”declared the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, on Wednesday. “The consequences of this measure, which was deliberately hidden from the public, will be most serious”he said in a press release.
  • Ukrainian special forces had earlier claimed to have carried out destructive strikes on two Russian army airfields during the night, in Luhansk and Berdyansk. The operation, called “Dragonfly”, resulted in the destruction of takeoff runways, nine helicopters, an anti-aircraft system and an ammunition warehouse, they said.
  • One dead in the Russian bombing of Zaporizhia. Russian missile strikes on the town of Zaporizhia, in southeastern Ukraine, left one dead and at least two injured, local authorities reported overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
  • The 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks that the United States promised to Ukraine have arrived at their destinationannounced Colonel Martin O’Donnell, spokesperson for the American army in Europe and Africa, speaking to Voice of America.
  • The Russian president was welcomed Tuesday by his Chinese counterpart and ally, Xi Jinpingannounced the Russian Foreign Ministry, on the occasion of the “new Silk Roads” summit in Beijing, at a time when the world’s eyes are on the war between Israel and Hamas.
  • MEPs voted on Tuesday in favor of aid to Ukraine of 50 billion euros over four years (2024-2027) for the “reconstruction” and the “modernization” from the countryas part of an extension of the multiannual budget of the European Union.
  • The cost of the destruction of the Kakhovka dam on June 6 is estimated at 13 billion eurosaccording to a report from the Ukrainian government and the United Nations.
  • An underwater telecommunications cable between Sweden and Estonia was “damaged”probably at the same time as the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia, the Swedish government announced on Tuesday.
