Senta Berger and Günther Maria Halmer in a big interview – Munich

What remains at the end of a life? How do you keep memories alive? In the film “Do You Know” Senta Berger and Günther Maria Halmer ask themselves fundamental questions. A conversation about two great careers, Helmut Dietl’s taste and crazy people on set.

The day after the premiere at the Munich Film Festival, Senta Berger, 82, and Günther Maria Halmer, 80, sit in a suite in the Bayerischer Hof and reminisce. First of all, the audience’s reactions (“impressive,” says Berger, “remarkable,” says Halmer), then of the filming, later of the collaboration with Helmut Dietl and of her early work. The title of the new film, which will be released in cinemas on September 21st, becomes the guideline for a conversation that sloshes back and forth and is only interrupted by the double ringing of the bell from Berger’s cell phone: “Do you remember?” In Rainer Kaufmann’s dialogue-rich chamber play (book: Martin Rauhaus), two people who have been married for 50 years look back on their lives, fueled by the miraculous effects of a mysterious pill. In the interview, two great actors look back on their careers – and finally answer the question that is also addressed in the film: How do you deal with the approaching end of your life?
