The fact that conducting is something completely different than beating the beat, that the conductor’s body in his gestures already shapes the music that is about to sound, marks its intensities, regulates its flow, introduces its secrets, is rarely experienced as excitingly and harmoniously as with Lahav Shani. The 34-year-old musician was born in Tel Aviv. He has been leading one of the very best orchestras in the world, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO), for three years and will also take over the Munich Philharmonic in three years. This is the most astonishing career in the classical music world at the moment, only surpassed by that of his 27-year-old colleague Klaus Mäkelä.
