The WDR children’s format takes a look behind the scenes of a manufacturer of homeopathic remedies. This doesn’t go down well online. The transmitter reacts.

After criticism of the participation of a manufacturer of homeopathic remedies in the door opener day of the children’s format “Sendung mit der Maus”, the attempt was made WDR to smooth out waves. “The Mouse Door Opener Day stands for transparency and dialogue, we take up critical comments about the campaign online and exchange ideas with users,” said the public broadcaster when asked by the German Press Agency.

According to WDR, around 150,000 children, parents and grandparents across Germany took part in Mouse Door Opener Day on the national holiday and looked “behind the scenes of a wide variety of companies”. More than 700 companies in Germany took part, including craft companies, sewage treatment plants and power plants.

Maus stands for “science-oriented knowledge transfer”

“The companies undertake to comply with the requirements when participating,” emphasized the WDR. “These are the same and strict for all companies. Lectures or content on, for example, ideological and religious aspects are prohibited.”

The first so-called door opener day, during which doors are opened that are otherwise closed and intended to provide an insight into the working world of adults, took place in 2011 on the occasion of the 40th birthday of “Sendung mit der Maus”. Since then it has been a fixed date on October 3rd – German Unity Day.
