Sendling: Gentrification feared by Gasteig provisional HP8 – Munich

Instead of a transitional quarter, many Sendlingers now simply refer to the “Gasteig” when they mean the HP 8 cultural center on Brudermühlstrasse. There is one thing in common that has been worrying residents for a long time and is now calling for political countermeasures: Just like the Haidhauser original almost 40 years ago, the long-term temporary solution should now promote the gentrification of the area.

The Sendlinger district committee is therefore unanimously calling on the city to expand the Sendling conservation statute to the south to include the residential areas between Thalkirchnerstrasse, Dietramszeller and Schäftlarnstrasse. With the exception of a few residential areas in the west and north-west, the statute applies to almost the entire district, but in the south it only extends just beyond Brudermühlstraße.

The BA underpins its claim with concerns that it had already expressed when approving HP 8. At the same time, he points to the current case of the “Sigi Sommer House” on Bruderhofstrasse, whose long-established tenants are resisting the planned (luxury) renovation of their apartments.
