Selena Gomez is set to star in the Linda Ronstadt biopic. The US star doesn’t just fit the role perfectly visually.

Great honor for singer and actress Selena Gomez (31). As the society magazine “Variety” reports, the 31-year-old is slated to star in a biopic about the American singer Linda Ronstadt (77). Gomez, star of the US comedy crime series “Only Murders in the Building” (since 2021), had on Tuesday in her Instagram story posted an image from Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir “Simple Dreams.” And Ronstadt’s fans are also happy on their Instagram profile already about Gomez’s casting for the role of her star.

Career retirement in 2011

According to Variety, the musical biopic is currently in the pre-production phase. On board the producers are Ronstadt’s long-time manager John Boylan (82) and actor and producer James Keach (76), who produced the documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” in 2019. The documentary describes the artist’s almost five-decade career on film.

At its peak in the 1970s and 1980s, she shaped the country rock genre like no other. Her resignation in 2011 for health reasons marked a low point. At that time, the interpreter of hits like “It’s so easy”, “Don’t know much” and “Blue Bayou” still assumed that she was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. According to the industry magazine, a “progressive, supranuclear palsy” has now been diagnosed. The consequences are equally dramatic: Ronstadt can no longer sing. Her wonderful live voice is gone forever.

Even more parallels

It’s not just visually that the 31-year-old Gomez and the younger Linda Ronstadt are strikingly similar. Their lives also show interesting parallels. Gomez was born in 1992 to Italian-American Amanda Dawn-Teefey and Mexican Ricardo Joel Gomez and grew up with her mother in Texas.

Ronstadt’s grandfather Federico also comes from Mexico – incidentally, as the son of a German immigrant from Hanover. He grew up there until moving to Tucson, Arizona in the late 19th century. Linda Ronstadt was born there in 1946.

Bang lupus

Selena Gomez’s career, like Linda Ronstadt’s, only knew heights at a young age. As a teenager, she celebrated her breakthrough in front of the camera with the Disney series “The Wizards of Waverly Place” (2007-2012). She was nominated for a Golden Globe twice for her acting performance in the series “Only Murders in the Building.” In this she not only plays one of the main roles alongside Steve Martin (78) and Martin Short (73). She also produces the comedy crime series.

As a music artist, Gomez has enjoyed worldwide success with hits such as “Lose You to Love Me” and “Love You Like a Love Song”. In addition, relationships with superstars such as Nick Jonas (31, Jonas Brothers) and Justin Bieber (29) constantly made headlines about the 31-year-old multi-talent. But Gomez, like Ronstadt, also has to live with a serious illness: in 2015 it became known that she had been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus in 2013. As a result, Gomez was repeatedly affected by depression and panic attacks. In 2017 she even received a donor kidney.

For a variety of reasons, Selena Gomez seems to be the ideal choice for the role of Linda Ronstadt.
