Hamburg Central Station is considered one of the most dangerous in Germany. Various measures are intended to improve safety for travelers, passers-by and other people there.

In addition to firearms, the weapons ban also includes knives with a blade length of over four centimeters as well as brass knuckles or so-called blackjacks. The relevant signs were put up this week.

Police presence significantly increased

The weapons ban is part of a package of measures with which the interior authorities want to increase security around the main train station. Among other things, the police presence at the main train station was significantly increased. As part of the “Alliance of Safe Main Station” there are also joint patrols by the police, federal police, DB Security and elevated railway guards. Attendance was recently increased from 48 hours to 90 hours per week.

In addition, video surveillance in the area of ​​Hamburg Central Station is also to be expanded. “I am optimistic that we can begin the structural implementation in the first quarter,” Grote announced. At the same time, the interior authorities are preparing a ban on alcohol consumption on Hachmannplatz and Heidi-Kabel-Platz, which is due to come into force from spring next year.
