The Federal Ministry of Economics also wants to reserve the right to expropriate energy companies as a last resort in the event of a crisis. As reported by circles of the Ministry of Economics, the energy security law, which dates back to 1975, is to be modernized and supplemented because of the consequences of the Ukraine war. The aim is to ensure security of supply. The Ministry of Economics has initiated departmental coordination with the other ministries. Special measures should be possible even before there is an immediate threat or disruption to the energy supply. Corporations that are counted among the critical energy infrastructure could then be put under trusteeship.
